Trivia Fans Unite!

It seems Dahlonega locals and visitors alike simply enjoy the competitive camaraderie of a trivia test every once in a while. In Dahlonega, though, it’s more than just once in a while. In fact, every Monday and Thursday night you can find local trivia experts and rank amateurs huddled around restaurant tables at Spirits Tavern (Mondays) and Shenanigans Irish Pub (Thursdays) comparing notes and deciding on answers to sometimes obscure trivia questions.

James “Free Jim” Boisclair

When Dahlonega was established in 1833, one of its first residents was a former slave who had recently arrived from Augusta named James Boisclair. Commonly referred to as “Free Jim,” among the local population, Boisclair opened a small mercantile and baked goods shop, on the site of the present day Smith House Restaurant.

Bring Your Pup & Stay a While!

There are certain towns that just feel right -- vibrant, friendly and outdoorsy.

You can usually tell by the canoes, kayaks and bicycles loaded onto cars going through, the pervasive smell of good coffee, chocolate and barbecue and the distinctive sound of bluegrass music. People are there for a good time, good eats and the good feeling you have when you’re there.

One other tip: look for dogs. It’s a dead giveaway. People who love dogs also seem to be drawn to these wonderful communities.
