Celebrate Thanksgiving in the Mountains

Looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city this Thanksgiving? Hop in the car with the family and take a short drive to Dahlonega for a relaxing day in the mountains.

Stretch your legs, throw on your running shoes, and start your day bright and early in the spirit of giving by participating in the Dahlonega Turkey Trot 5k & Fun Run! Sign up your family and run together through our historic downtown to benefit the Lumpkin Family Connection, a local non-profit organization dedicated to researching and addressing the needs of children and families in our community. The 5K will begin at 8:30 AM and the Fun Run will begin at 9:15 AM on Thanksgiving Day. Register online here!

Have a history of over-cooking the turkey or just don’t feel like spending your evening washing dishes? Dine in at one of our highly recommended restaurants providing a Thanksgiving feast.

Montaluce Winery & Le Vigne Restaurant (recently featured in a stellar Zagat review) will host their annual Thanksgiving on the Mountain Top, a farm-fresh, family-style Thanksgiving feast featuring all of your favorite holiday dishes accompanied by a cornucopia of savory sides prepared by award-winning Executive Chef, Sean. Pair your meal with some of our region’s finest hand-crafted wines. Click here to make your reservation.

Forrest Hills Resort will offer a traditional holiday buffet feast complete with roast turkey and gravy, fried chicken, ham, cornbread stuffing, collard greens, mashed potatoes and many other Thanksgiving favorites! Seating times are at 12 PM, 2 PM, and 4 PM in their Rose Garden Dining Room. This feast is by reservation only. To secure your table, please call 706-864-6456.

The famous Smith House will also be offering a Thanksgiving Family lunch or dinner that you won’t forget! With a wide selection of homemade entrees and desserts served in a family-style spread, you’re sure to find something for everyone. The Smith House does not accept reservations on this day, so show up early with an empty stomach! Serving hours are 11 AM to 6 PM.

Looking for a place to catch the afternoon football game? Pop in to Spirits Tavern downtown from 5 PM to 11 PM to mingle with friends, enjoy a drink, and watch the game.

End your day with a relaxing stroll through our historic downtown, a vigorous hike around Lake Zwerner, or on one of our many nature trails.

However you spend your day, we wish all of you a happy and safe Thanksgiving and hope to see you in Dahlonega very soon!
