Two-Wheeled Action Coming to Dahlonega in September

Get your bicycle ready because Dahlonega temperatures have cooled and University of North Georgia students are back – two sure signs that September and early autumn is nearly upon us. September in Dahlonega means that the Six Gap Century & Three Gap Fifty Bicycle Ride -- one of the premier bicycle rides in the Southeast, maybe even in the nation – is right around the corner.

An exciting Criterium starts the weekend off in beautiful downtown Dahlonega on Saturday, September 24 and the Six Gap ride starts early on Sunday the 25th. New, fun features for the weekend are being planned, including an Adult Trike Relay Race on Saturday just before the Criterium, and vendor booths will add to the energy of downtown, which already boasts more than 65 shops and 15 restaurants.

This will be Dahlonega’s 28th Annual Six Gap & Three Gap Rides which feature spectacular scenery, well-marked courses for six-gappers and three-gappers, professional event management, and plenty of friendly, welcoming volunteers to guide riders on the course and provide food and drink along the way.

The Six Gap Century has long been considered one of the most challenging rides, with 11,200 feet of vertical climb along the 104-mile course. That doesn’t mean, however, that it needs to be daunting for the recreational cyclist. Climbs also mean that there are downhill coasts – opportunities to catch your breath, relax and celebrate the view. Six Gap is the perfect way to enjoy camaraderie with cycling friends, discover a new part of the country casual or, for some, to return to a beloved ride that’s become a tradition.
