Dahlonega Hosts the 23rd Annual Six Gap Century and Three Gap Fifty Ride

6-GAP-lowIn honor of the 23rd-annual Six Gap Century and Three Gap Fifty Ride Weekend, VP of Operations for the Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center, Stefani Logsdon, took a few moments out of her busy schedule to answer a few questions about the high-speed weekend.

1. What are the Six Gap Century & Three Gap Fifty bike rides?

On September 25, 2011 thousands of cyclists will take to the Dahlonega roadways to participate in the Six Gap Century & Three Gap Fifty ride. The Six Gap Century ride will test cyclists’ staminas with more than 11,200 feet of vertical climbing over the 104-mile course. The Three Gap Fifty ride is a shorter ride at 58 miles long but offers just as much of a challenge as the Six Gap.  Due to its steep climbs, mountainous terrain, and challenging routes, Dahlonega is considered Georgia’s premier cycling venue.

2.  How many people are you expecting to attend this year’s event?

Last year, we had 2,600 participants. However, this year we are expecting a higher turnout due to the addition of the Six Gap Criterium on Saturday.

3. What is the Six Gap Criterium?

On September 24th for the first time in 23 years, a Criterium is being added to the weekend line-up. Hundreds of cyclists will compete in seven competitive races around historic downtown Dahlonega from 4:30 p.m. till 9:30 p.m. The one-kilometer, closed circuit course will wind through the heart of downtown, making it a great way for fans to watch the cyclists pass multiple times at top speeds of 40 miles per hour.

4. What’s your favorite thing about the Six Gap Century and Three Gap Fifty Bike Races?

I really love being a part of the rides because I have the opportunity to meet cyclists and visitors from all over the state.  The event is a great way to bring a number of people together and to showcase our great town and all it offers.  This year I am really looking forward to the new Criterium because it will give everyone a chance to get up close to the action.

5. Where can people who are interested in participating in the Six Gap Century and Three Gap learn more about the rides?
