Achasta and southern living present donation to united way

Dahlonega, Ga. (December 18, 2009) – Achasta and Southern Living were pleased to present a charitable donation to the United Way of Lumpkin County/Dahlonega on Monday, December 14.  Funds raised were generated from tour proceeds at the Southern Living Idea House at Achasta.  The Idea House welcomed almost 18,000 visitors from June 6 –October 18, making it one of the most successful in the 26-year history of the Southern Living Idea House program.

Ron Larson, managing director of Achasta and Robin Fender, house manager, joined Frank Craige, manager of the Southern Living Idea House Program, in presenting a check in the amount of $35,720 to United Way board members and representatives of the 16 agencies that will benefit from the donation.  The donation money will be used to fund non-profit health and human service agencies assisting residents of Lumpkin County.  These organizations address crucial issues such as food, clothing and shelter, illiteracy, children born with developmental delays, drug abuse, and abused and/or neglected children.

The many volunteers who supported and embraced the project led to the success of the Southern Living Idea House.  The Dahlonega Merchants Association and the Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Chamber of Commerce were important partners in promoting this wonderful attraction to the Dahlonega community.  Members of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity at North Georgia College and State University provided valuable assistance with parking and shuttle service to further enhance each guest’s visit to the house.

Based on the tremendous appeal of the house, the show dates were extended through December 20, complete with holiday decorations adding extra charm to the stunning design of the house.
