December in Dahlonega…Month-Long Mountain Fun

Our tradition is your destination!  Christmas and the Holiday Season in Georgia always warms the winter air, but December in Dahlonega is an enchanting experience, its own fifth, special season following Summer and Fall, that offers a full month of fun.  For decades, local community volunteers transform North Georgia’s unmatched historic downtown district into a scenic wonderland of festive decor and activities.  Dahlonega welcomes you on the sidewalks and streets of the cozy public square as if you were scaled down to join a miniature model Christmas village.  The sights, sounds, and smells of the holidays along with local merchants in period dress straight from the pages of Charles Dickens “A Christmas Carole” complete the authentic visit for a month of a true Old Fashioned Christmas!

The holiday magic builds on November 18th as Dahlonega flips the switch with thousands of little white lights to showcase our turn-of-the-century architecture and beautiful landscaping.  The day after Thanksgiving, the downtown district comes alive with its great local shopping, dining, arts, theater, and horse-drawn carriage rides.  New this year is a weekend old fashioned downtown Trolley tour – a guided 30-minute journey showcasing local tales, history, and highlighted city decorations.  On Friday, December 2nd, shopkeepers will help you fulfill your gift list during the Merchant Open-House while annual Luminaries make the downtown moonlight shopping experience a festive local treat.   On Saturday, December 3rd, catch a glimpse of Santa riding in the Parade and catch the glow of the Lighting of  the Tree at the Visitors Center.  December in Dahlonega will be alive with  holiday celebrations and events including caroling along the square, live entertainment, wine tastings, and performances at the Historic Holly Theater.  Additionally, Dahlonega’s “Sleigh Bell Tour” is a self-guided driving tour of all of the town’s bed and breakfast inns.  Participating inns will be decorated with a unique holiday theme and will feature holiday music and refreshments.

After enjoying all that Dahlonega offers, use our lodging as home base for day trips and excursions.  There is no better place to wind down after exploring North Georgia for the holidays.  If you visit us for a Winter Adventure, we are confident Dahlonega will become your December destination tradition!
