Honeymoons

Just married? Spend a romantic honeymoon in the Georgia mountains surrounding by beautiful views. Choose from horseback riding and carriage rides, to wineries, hundreds of nature trails, canoe-in, kayaking, & more. We promise, you won’t want to leave!

Experience the Outdoors

The Chattahoochee National Forest makes up one-third of Lumpkin County, providing ample opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, off-roading, and ATV driving. Relax and go on a lazy tubing, canoeing, or kayaking experience on the Chestatee or Etowah rivers while the many waterfalls throughout the county offer serene spots for picnics and photography.

There are many hiking trails both for day hikes and backpacking trips near Dahlonega in the Chattahoochee National Forest Trails of Lumpkin County. Download the "Hiking Trails in the Dahlonega Area" guide to learn about 22 trails in the North Georgia Mountains.

Wineries

There’s no need to go all the way to California, France, or Italy as a newly married couple to enjoy a quality wine tasting experience. Thanks to the ideal growing conditions of the Dahlonega Plateau AVA (American Viticultural Area) region, Dahlonega is home to eight award-winning wineries and one meadery that have prompted many (well, Southern Living!) to call it the “Napa Valley of the South.” We even like to call Dahlonega the Napa Valley of the EAST Coast!

Restaurants

Dahlonega pleases all palates and offers many options, including casual on-the-go picnic food to romantic, fine-dining options! Whether you are looking for a place to grab a quick lunch or somewhere to enjoy a relaxing meal after a full day exploring, Dahlonega has many delicious options to choose from.

Underground gold Mines, Gem & Gold Panning

There’s a long history of gold in Dahlonega. Twenty years before gold was discovered in California, Dahlonega had its own first Gold Rush and mining in the area continued on up until WWII! Experience an underground Gold Mine Tour at Consolidated Gold Mines, or choose to experience Crisson Gold Mine’s working century-old stamp mill and open pit mine! If you’re interested in a closer look at Dahlonega’s history, check out the Dahlonega Gold Museum which features a complete collection of gold coins – worth a small fortune – minted right here in Dahlonega.

Day Trips

Just a 45-minute drive from the heart of downtown Dahlonega, find the romantic setting of Gibbs Gardens, and discover a world-class garden and estate with 16 different gardens - including a Monet-inspired bridge!

For adventurists, head over to Amicalola Falls State Park for 829 acres of pure fun. The park features a 3-D archery course, survivalist camp, zip lines, & more.
